Saint Paul's Hostel

Saint Paul's Hostel, dedicated in memory of the late Monsignor Paul El Khoury was opened in December 1995, principally as an ethno-specific aged care service for people of Arabic speaking backgrounds. However, in 1996 it began to evolve into a multicultural facility for people of all nationalities and a significant number of veterans. The service is administered by the Antonine Sisters, our Maronite Order of Nuns from Lebanon. It encourages independent living with the support of caring and experienced staff in a familiar cultural setting. The philosophy of the service is best described as "close to home in every way".

At present we are in the middle of extending the services of the Hostel so that we can cater for an additional 30 residents. The new wing was named the Saint Louis wing, in honour of one of the Parishioners, Mr Louis Fleyfel, who donated 1.5 million dollars to help the development. That donation, with a grant from the Federal Government and donations from many parishioners have made the extension possible.

Traditionally Lebanese looked after their elderly, Age Care facilities are a new way of families looking after their elderly. There is nothing shameful about having a loved one in a facility, because in the long run, we all need to provide our loved ones with the best care possible. If you can do this at home, that is good. But if you cannot, then consider a Hostel or a Nursing home for your loved one.

Three Antonine Sisters live in and manage the Hostel. Through their dedication and initiative the Hostel is recognised as a warm and welcoming environment.

The residents at St.Paul's Hostel can participate in a daily mass that is celebrated in the Hostel Chapel.

The Hostel has 30 rooms where each resident is assigned a key for their own privacy. Personal care assistants help with bathing, dressing and any other personal need. Furthermore, a qualified registered nurse and staff are in attendance at the Hostel 24 hours a day.

The Hostel takes special interest in the life of each resident. An Activities coordinator organises trips; cinema days, daily exercise; and a variety of other activities.

Saint Paul's Hostel fosters a multicultural environment, with an emphasis on Lebanese and Middle Eastern Communities.

The Hostel is characterised by its ability to encompass and accept residents from many cultures and backgrounds. It is as close to home in every way!

The development of the Hostel has been very exciting for our Parish as it looks to the future and endeavours to see potential needs for the elderly within our community. It is hoped that the new extension will be finished in March 2007. As Maronites, we are proud of the services we are building for our future.
