ANTONINE SISTERS MARONITE SCHOOL

The Antonine Sisters Order always had a vision to open a Primary school in Melbourne to encourage the teachings of the Maronite Church and other Eastern Christian Rites.

The ever growing Lebanese Community in Melbourne also reflected this vision, as they believed their children deserved to learn more about their religion and the Lebanese culture.

In November 1997 The Antonine Sisters Order purchased the Coburg East Primary School site. With many items missing from the school, this meant the Sisters had to spend more than they had anticipated in replacing items and repairing the building. Rooms were recarpeted, blinds and shades were installed in all rooms, walls, stairs and doors were repainted and a new PA system was purchased. With the help of the Community, the school endured a massive cleanup to reduce the mess.

The Antonine Sisters School was officially opened on Sunday 22nd March 1998 by His Grace, Bishop Joseph Hitti of the Maronite Church in Australia and acting Mother Superior of the Antonine Sisters Order, Sr Judith Haroun. On the schools opening day, the enrolment figure was 110 students, which was between grades prep to three.

Now in its tenth year, the school is definitely on the map. Where once the name of the school was unknown to many people and even other schools, now it is recognised as the first Maronite Primary School in Melbourne and it is being run by the Antonine Sisters Order.

In 2002, the Antonine Sisters purchase Trinity Catholic College in Brunswick for the Primary Schoolers to continue their education. Not long afterwards, the two Campuses amalgamated to become one School - Antonine College, with Cedar Campus in Coburg looking after the Primary School Students and Trinity Campus in Brunswick looking after the Secondary School Students.

The Principal, Sr. Daad Azzi, is quite proud of the progress so far with regards to education, physical change of the school and spiritual guidance. The leadership of the Antonine Sisters and the input and dedication of the staff have proved beneficial for the school, and these changes within the school have not gone unnoticed by parents.
